Melanotan II is an analogue of alpha-MSH, the hormone that tells the pigment cells in your skin to produce melanin. Supplying it from outside makes those cells produce more, so you tan faster and darker from less sun. It also acts on receptors in the brain involved in arousal and appetite, which is where the other effects come from.

Read this before buying. Melanotan II darkens moles and freckles, and it can cause new ones to appear. That matters more than the other side effects combined, because a mole changing is also how melanoma presents, and the compound makes that signal much harder to read. Anyone with a lot of moles, fair skin that burns easily, or a family history of skin cancer should not use this. If you do use it, have your skin checked by a dermatologist beforehand so you know your baseline, and get anything that changes looked at rather than assuming it is the peptide. It does not tan you without UV. Melanotan II makes your pigment cells more responsive; it does not replace the trigger, so you still need sun or a sunbed, and you can still burn while using it. Nausea and facial flushing in the first few doses are near universal and settle. Spontaneous erections are common early on and are not a fault.
